Skill Levels
Skill Levels 🤸
No matter the skill level, the point of Urban Rec is simple. Have fun, play fair, and don’t be a hero. Good sportsmanship is non negotiable across all leagues. We expect open communication, mutual respect, and a bit of friendly banter between teams. It’s social sport, not the Olympics.
Urban Rec leagues operate on an honesty policy. Our League Hosts are there to run the game, but if a call is missed, we expect players to call themselves out. Fair play always comes first. Any form of gamesmanship or dodgy tactics that put winning ahead of having a good time is not on. Teams that prioritise competitiveness over sportsmanship are not encouraged to register, and teams that consistently ignore this may be suspended or removed from the league. FUN First always wins.
Divisions 🤝
Where possible, Urban Rec will create separate divisions based on skill level to ensure games are competitive, fair, and fun for everyone.
However, divisions are only viable when we have a minimum number of team registrations. If numbers don’t stack up, skill levels may be combined within a single league. In these cases, teams are expected to play in the spirit of Urban Rec and be mindful of mismatches on the field. We’ll always do our best to balance leagues and review divisions as the season progresses.
Recreational 🎯
Recreational leagues are designed for beginners and casual players. Teams should be made up mostly of players who are new to the sport or returning after a long break. The average player will have a basic understanding of the skills involved but limited game experience. Players may have little or no knowledge of the rules and that’s totally fine. Recreational leagues are about learning, improving, and enjoying the game. Our League Hosts are there to help guide gameplay and create a welcoming, low pressure environment. If you’re here to have a laugh, meet people, and get moving without taking it too seriously, this is your level.
Intermediate 💪
Intermediate leagues are for teams who are ready to step things up a notch. These teams have usually played a few seasons at the recreational level and feel comfortable competing against more experienced players. The average player will have more refined skills and a solid understanding of how the game flows. Players should know the basic rules of their sport, but it’s important to remember that Urban Rec rules and vibe can differ from traditional clubs or associations. Our FUN First policy still applies at all times. If you enjoy a bit of healthy competition but still value fair play, laughs, and post game banter, Intermediate is your sweet spot!
